Why has Rev.Moon been anti-communist?

"Rev. Moon predicted the fall of Communist regimes and stirred bold anti-communist advances in the West. Moon was recognized as the most dangerous anti-communist by the Soviet Intelligence. Since Rev.Moon got in their way, several Communist regimes made attempts to assassinate him. According to high officials in the White House, Moon played major role in ending the Cold War, mainly with his paper, Washington Times. That's one of the main reasons for the vicious negative campaign against his church and the sect accusations in the past."

Rev. Moon, started active campaign against communism already in the sixties. He was one of the first to reveal the the atrocities of communist regimes and dictatorship. His organization CAUSA , according to research exposed communistic evils and gave counter proposal to Marxist ideology through Victory over Communism Theory. In the seventies Rev.Moon supported hard anti-communist policy of Nixon. This connection brought bad publicity to Unification Church after the unfortunate Watergate scandal .


Rev.Moon’s religious position was that communism rejects God, morality and leads to erosion of human values.Moon himself was imprisoned by the rising North Korean regime in 1948 for energetic religious activity, part of the communists' agenda to erase religion and churches. He spent 3 year in a hard labour camp till his release by UN forces in 1950.
Survivors of the camp claim that the Heung Nam fertilizer plant was a place where "death reigned" and an average person did not survive beyond six month of hard labour and unbearable living conditions.

But Rev.Moon explains that fighting the perverse communist ideology he never harboured resentment against his oppressors nor hated the people under the communist regimes. On the contrary his work was to expose the evils and help the communist countries restore their freedom including that of religious worship.
He met Gorbachev in 1991 and pushed for religious freedom in the Soviet Union.(Personal interview with Gorbachev).

Another of Rev.Moon’s organizations Professors World Peace Academy sponsored a conference in 1985 in Geneva. Unprecedented debate predicted the fall of Communist regimes and stirred bold anti-communist advances in the West. In the Soviet Union Rev. Moon was a recognized anti-communist and his speeches were studied by the Soviet Intelligence. Allegedly, as Rev.Moon got in their way, several Communist regimes made attempts to assassinate Moon in USA.

The Temple to be erected in Korea with the representative statues of 4 major religions is to house beyond 21000 people. The project organizers claim the funds will come from different religious and social foundations not only Unification Church. Main goal is to reconcile divided religions and help solve conflicts.

In his resent memoirs “Peace loving global citizen” Rev.Moon says “It will not be easy to tear down the religious walls that have stood for thousands of years, but these walls must come down if we are to advance into a world of peace.”

It is common knowledge that religions could not sit and worship God together; even Christian denominations divided and fought each other. So far believers flocked each to their own church or mosque. And religious leaders have sent anathemas to dissenters.

But Unification Church claims denominationalism is not the purpose of religion nor God’s desire. We live in new age…

“Peace will never come to this earth unless we first tear down the walls between religions I have called on people until my voice is hoarse to transcend their religious factions and even their religions. They have fallen into a selfish thought process that puts their religion or faction first. They are oblivious to the fact that the world has changed and a new era of selflessness has dawned” says Sun Myung Moon.

Religion is not the end

He goes on to explain that religion is not the main goal. But PEACE is. That is the goal of the Temple, too. To bring religious people together to cooperate for peace and remove age long walls created by ethnicity and religions

The Temple for World Peace and Unity

Hyung Jin Moon, youngest son and heir of the now aging contradictory religious leader, has travelled and collected the soil from the revered sites of major religions. He explains: “There are no Buddhist temples where Jesus is worshipped; and there are no churches whose congregations worship Buddha. Here at the Peace Temple, we honor the four great saints and we inherit their teachings and devotion”

Rev.Moon criticizes religions for insisting each on its path of salvation and thus creating divisions which are hard to overcome.

But there is solution. If people recognize God’s original desire for love and peace, a way can be found to work hard together for peace, reconciliation, and coexistence.

3 steps for peace in the world

No peace is to be seen without transforming religious attitudes, Rev.Moon insists.

Religious people must change their attitude towards other believers! It cannot stay as now. And three steps must be followed:

-First, respect the traditions of other religions and do everything you can to prevent conflict and discord among religions.

-Second, all religious communities should cooperate with each other to serve the world.

-Third, the leaders of all religions should work together to develop a structure that will let us accomplish our mutual mission of establishing world peace.

Shouldn't you be alerted when a certain destiny is forthcoming? For your inner and outer man to become one you need the power of prayer.

What prayers excite God?

We pray for our job, family and our pet. But is God satisfied with such prayers?


In the Christian world today many people pray every day, but do you think they pray to destroy the Christian churches? No, they pray for prosperity, but the churches are crumbling nevertheless. Do you pray for the sake of the Unification Church? You don't have to pray for the Unification Church; pray for the big things: the nation, the world, the liberation of God. What you are really doing then is praying for a cross even bigger than the Unification Church.
If you pray for yourself or for things smaller than the Church then God will not answer because He is not interested in listening to such boring prayer. When you talk about the nation and world, He gets excited and starts looking for ways to help. This is training for how to love greater things. If you really live like that then even if you don't have time to pray God will still back you up.


In churches today people pray for their denominations, their Social Security check or their family problems and their pet. God's ears hurt when He hears those prayers and He will plug His ears. If those people prayed for God to use their church to help save the world and liberate God, He would perk up and be amazed because God is just like you. When you only talk about yourself in your prayer, God is thoroughly bored and nothing will happen. But if you pray for His righteousness and His kingdom, He will be caught up in your passion.


In order to fulfill bigger things you need an adventurous mind and be willing to take risks. Then God will tell you not to worry, that He is right behind you. If you throw yourself into overcoming the stone walls and persecution before you, God will take up your battle for He knows who is just and who is unjust. But first God will watch, giving you a chance to knock your opponent down with your own capability. This is the same thing a father and mother would do. If you come running to God to ask for help before you even confront your enemy, He, like any parent, will be ashamed to hear you and will send you back out again. Create a good problem: be a heavenly troublemaker instead.
